Catherine Janes, 71, of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at Hardin Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born on July 14, 1945 in Adair County and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Emma T. Hadley Burton.

She is survived by her husband, David Janes of Columbia; sons, Carl L. Smith and his wife Stella of Columbia and Samuel J. Janes and his wife Kelly of Lexington; two sisters, Bernice (Avery) Rooks of Columbia and Linda Bell of Columbia. Eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Geraldine Burton, Fredia Ruth Burton, Edith Streeval, Glenna Compton and Margie Burton; four brothers, Jr. Burton, Golen Burton, Marshall Burton, Hueston Burton; half-brother, Odie Burton; and half-sister, Helen Irvin.

Catherine was a member of Dutch Creek Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, had worked at Fruit of the Loom, Circle R Restaurant and was working at Cranmer Dining Center at Lindsey Wilson College.

Funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 22 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Pitcock officiating and interment in Bearwallow Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Bell, Steve Bell, Jr., Nick Wood, Dwayne Burton, Marshall Burton and David McAllister.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Smith, Jacob Smith and Matthew Wood.
