Edward A. Farris, 96, of Frankfort, formerly of Adair County, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Baptist Health Lexington.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1920 in Adair County and was the son of the late Johnnie and Mollie Bennett Farris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark Allen and Barbara Farris; three sibilings, Garnett (Mary Lou) Farris, Marvin Farris and Virginia (Lee) Armstrong; a brother-in-law, Marcus Jones and by two great grandchildren.

Mr. Farris was an infantry sergeant in General Patton’s Third Army, 35th Division, 134th Regiment, Company G., during World War II. He retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, serving as Commissioner of the Alcohol Beverage Control.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Robert) Beasley of Kansas City, Mo., Larry (Natalie) Farris of McKinney, Texas and Cathy (Charles) McGaughey of Nicholasville; and by one sister, Jessie Jones of Cane Valley.

Eight grandchildren, one step grandchild, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A private graveside service will be held in Cane Valley Cemetery with full military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.
