Sidney Smith, 66, of Portage, Indi., passed away on Friday, July 22 at Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illi., surrounded by his loving family. Sidney was born on July 22, 1950 to the late Howard and Ercie (Smyth) Smith in Edmonton.

Sidney retired from Worthington Industries after 46 years of service, and he proudly served his country in the United States Army. On July 21, 1979, Sidney married the love of his life, Alice Faye (Baker) Smith. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Erskine, Malcolm and Billy.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Alice F. Smith of Portage, Indi.; one son, Justin Aaron (Heather) Smith; three daughters, Donna (Don) Hale, Tammy (Mike) Vargo and Christina (Josh) Young; one brother, Archie Smith; eleven grandchildren, Kelli Hale, Krystal Autrey, Donald Hale III, Eddie Arteaga, Malena Finney, Peter Andersen III, Dan Andersen, Andrinna Flinchum, Brooklyn Young, Zander Smith, Aurora Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Blake, Alex, Shayne, Brock, Jonah, Kayden and Dawson; and a host of other loving family members and friends also survive him.

Funeral service was Thursday, July 28 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, Indi. Graveside was will be Saturday, July 30 at 2 p.m. at Freedom Cemetery with full military honors presented by local VFW Post 6097.
