Margie Kathleen Rice Breeding Coomer

Margie Kathleen Rice Breeding Coomer, 98, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Summit manor Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was born on December 8, 1924 in Adair County to the late George Moore Rice Sr. and Flora Eva Hovious Rice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands William B. Breeding and later Rev. John L. Coomer; a brother, George M. Rice Jr. and his wife Christine; and four children, Donald, Kenneth, Harold Coomer and Margie Roach.

Mrs. Coomer was a dedicated member of Milltown Church and later Trinity Church. She was employed by Federal Crop Insurance and in earlier years served as a teacher in Adair County. She enjoyed singing, playing piano, reading, serving her church and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Doug (Kim) Breeding; a daughter Nancy (Buddy) Smith; two children, Rev. John Carroll Coomer (Janice) and Nannette Coomer Johnson; four grandchildren, Erin (Gerard), Willie (Klara), Melissa (Pete) and John David; three great grandchildren, Ernie, Caroline and Thomas; four nieces Sue Coomer, Lou Anne Coomer, Janet Biggs and Cherita McFarland and families; a nephew, Joey Caldwell and family; and several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, in-laws and other family members.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Trinity Church with burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday until time for the service at Trinity Church.

Rev. Steve Pescosolido and Elijah Coffey will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Doug Breeding, Buddy Smith, John Wells, Willie Breeding, Pete Ashby and Gerard Hardiman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richie Coomer, Steve Coomer, Mike McKinney, Joey Caldwell, Rick Wilson, Ray Fluhr, Sammy Blair, Mike Griffitt, Neal Coomer and Layden Coffey. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideon Bibles or Trinity Church and can be left at the funeral home.
