Six years after confessing to the shooting death of Rex Coffey, Wellie Paul Grant was released from jail Friday. Grant was charged but has never been tried for the June 10, 2006 murder of Rex Coffey as Coffey, his wife and two others stood outside the Beech Grove Separate Baptist Church.
Special Judge James L. Bowling, Jr. released Grant on a $100,000 unsecured bond after determining that Grant is not competent to stand trial and is never expected to improve.
