This week is Kentucky Safe Schools Week and Adair County students/staff have participated in several activities to help promote the safety of our students, our campus and in our community.
Students in Adair County Schools will be participating in The Great Central US ShakeOut earthquake preparedness event on Thursday, October 19th at 10:19 am. On Thursday at 10:19 am, schools will have school wide earthquake drills and document any concerns or issues that may arise from your school’s participation. This will be the second earthquake drill for our schools this year to help make sure that our students and staff know what to do in the time of an actual earthquake. Faculty and staff members will talk to students about such actions as dropping and take cover under desks, tables, taking cover in interior doorways or narrow halls, or against weight‑bearing inside walls, and even staying away from windows and light fixtures. We will also discuss what to do if you are outside if an earthquake begins.
The Great Central US ShakeOut comes right in the middle of Kentucky Safe Schools Week, which is sponsored by the Kentucky Center for Schools Safety. This year’s theme is Get Involved Get it Solved, STOP the Bullying. Adair County students have been talking about the issues that face students in our district, across our state and nation and many have taken the STOP the Bullying pledge.
KCSS has an online pledge and we would encourage community members to get involved by taking the online pledge at https://kycss.org/getinvolved/.
We believe that everyone can get involved by pledging to :
Get involved by not bullying others.
Get involved by trying to help students who are bullied.
Get involved by trying to include students who are left out.
Get involved by telling an adult at school or home, if I know somebody is being bullied.
On Friday, Safe Schools Week will end with many of Adair County’s finest emergency first responders meeting with Adair County School staff to review emergency procedures for the school district. This is an annual meeting that helps our first responders and school personnel keep open lines of communication on emergency procedures.
School safety is always our top priority in Adair County Schools. We work diligently to make sure our students and staff are safe and comfortable on our campus. We encourage the community’s feedback and input throughout the year. Feedback can be sent to Robbie Harmon (Safe Schools Coordinator), Jaimie Wisdom (Administrative Assistant), or Ofc. Kevin Atwood (Adair Co. Schools Resource Officer). Tips and input can also be made anonymously by going to Adair County Schools Website and clicking on the STOP Tip line stop sign on the left of the webpage.
