Adair County Elementary School is excited to announce that VSA Kentucky has awarded the funding for a week long workshop with artist Lorinda Jones. Mrs. Jones is a talented musician, who will be working mainly with 4th grade plus a few other classes the week of February 19. During this workshop the students will learn the elements of music while being taught to play a variety of Appalachian instruments. The students will have the opportunity to learn traditional songs and rhythms from the Appalachian Mountains.
ACES students are creating instruments which they will learn to play. Prior to and during the week students will explore other aspects of Appalachian culture, including music, dance, art, poetry and folktales. They will end the workshop with a performance of what the students have learned about Appalachian culture. Family of performers and community members are invited to attend.
