CAMPBELLSVILLE – Playing on the road for the second third straight outing and in as many days, Adair County returned to the win column Tuesday (April 16), shutting out host Campbellsville 5-0 in a 20th District game.
Adair County defeated Campbellsville for its second district win. The Lady Indians edged Campbellsville 2-1 in a game played in April 9 in Columbia.
Experienced junior pitcher Natalie Bertram picked up the win. One of the 5th Region’s top pitchers, Bertram was strong from start to finish in the district game, only allowing one hit and one walk en route to the win
“Natalie (Bertram) pitched really well for us, dominating with her pitching and controlling Campbellsville’s batters,” Adair County Coach Steve Martin commented. “It was a really good win for our team.”
Adair County broke open a scoreless game in in the second inning. For the Lady Indians, Darianne Hall, Sammy Jo Kemp, Caitlyn Nuckolls, Emily Janes and Hannah Absher all singled in the top half of the second inning. Adair County moved ahead in the second inning and never allowed Campbellsville to answer.
The Lady Indians added to their lead in the second inning, padding the cushion to the tune of a 5-0 advantage, the game’s final score.
Hall and Kemp both singled for Adair County in the third inning. Adair County secured the 5-0 lead after sophomore infielder Sydney Bragg plated Hall and Kemp with a two-run triple in the third.
Adair County and Campbellsville are not scheduled to meet again during the regular-season but could play again in the postseason.
