The Adair County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of suspicious activity on Neat Hollow Road, 11 miles east of Columbia around 4:39 p.m. on Monday, March 30.
Upon Sheriff Deputy Joey Keith and Sheriff Deputy Chandler Staten’s arrival, they located the suspect vehicle, which is a blue Chevrolet passenger car.
Upon contact, deputies believed the operator, Lewis Burton, 57, to be under influence of intoxicating substance. Upon completion of roadside investigation it was found that probable cause existed that Burton was under the influence. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a suspended operators license.
Burton was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs; possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, methamphetamine; and operating on a suspended Kentucky driver’s license.
