A local state agency building was put on lock-down Thursday after a report that a man intended to shoot employees as they exited the building.
The Columbia Police Department received word at 12:36 p.m. Thursday that a man was on the property of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which houses the Family Support and Protection and Permanency, and had stated that he would wait outside and “pick off the employees one by one as they left the building.”
City Police and the Adair County Sheriff’s department secured the building. Around 1:30 p.m. Sgt. Gary Roy and Sgt. Jr Murphy with the city police department took the suspect into custody. At 3 p.m., a warrant was issued and Danny Jeffires 56, of Columbia, was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening, 3rd degree and retaliating against a participant in a legal process. He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. The case remains under investigation by Sgt . Gary Roy
