The Adair County grand jury returned indictments this past week against James Jonathan Burris of Columbia. Burris, a former commercial truck driver, has been charged with manslaughter 2nd degree in connection with a wreck that occurred on Hwy. 80 on Dec. 1, 2017 and resulted in the death of Danny Helm of Columbia. It is believed that drug use could have been a contributing factor in the wreck.

Burris was also indicted for leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid with death or serious physical injury.

Burris is being held on a $25,000 cash bond with arraignment scheduled for Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.

James (Jonathan) Burris was driving a Freightliner when he crossed the roadway and hit another vehicle being driven by Danny Helm.
