Carl Lewis Burris, 93, of Gradyville, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 at his home after an illness.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1922 in Gradyville and was the son of the late Elmer and Nonie Roach Burris of Adair County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Bell Smith Burris on Dec. 13, 2004; a daughter, Patsy Posey in 1963; by an infant son, Glenn Burris, and by one granddaughter, Teresa Gibbons.
He is survived by one son, Randall Burris and his wife Sherry of Columbia; five daughters, Dorothy Stinson and her husband Jackie, Betty Keith and her husband Ollie Clay, Wanda Keen and her husband Joey and Vickie Jessee and her husband James, all of Columbia, and Janice Byrd and her husband Tommy of Glasgow; and by one sister, Evelyn Squires of Campbellsville.
Twelve grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
Mr. Burris was a member of House of Prayer in Edmonton for more than 60 years. He was a farmer and a bus driver for the Adair County School system and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
Funeral service was Sunday, Aug. 14 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Phil Lowry and Bro. Wes Jolly officiating with interment in Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery with full military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery fund and my be left at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Andy Byrd, Kerry Byrd, Jeremy Burris, Daniel Kean, Don Keith, Greg Keith and Ronald Stinson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Simpson, Crystal Judd, Chasity Janes, Brittany Dile and Melinda Willis.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
