Mary Lee Carter, 89, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at her home.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1922 in Adair County and was the daughter of the late Johnny and Rissie Conover Denton and was the widow of Lee Bob Carter who preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1985.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Jo Rooks of Columbia; one son, Phillip Carter and his wife Sue of Columbia; and by three sisters, Helen Denton of Columbia, Cleoda Cox and Catherine Fisher, both of Edinburgh, Ind.
She was blessed with eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by one great grandchild and by three brothers and one sister, James Denton, Robert Denton, John Arnold Denton and Ethal Pearl Campbell.
Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 28 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Polston officiating with interment in Freedom Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Rooks, Mitchell Rooks, Dwight Kinnett, Avery Russell, Patrick Russell and Willard Bryant.

OBIT: George Thiery, 90
George Thiery, 90, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1921 in Dyer, Ind. and was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna Clobes Thiery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Thiery and by one son, David Thiery.
He is survived by one son, Douglas Thiery and his wife Diane of Gradyville; one brother, Nick Thiery of St. John, Ind.; and by two sisters, Lucille Thiery and Lillian Teutemacher, both of Dyer, Ind.
Seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Thiery was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was a carpenter for many years.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Wisconsin.

OBIT: Velma Marie Wilkerson, 85
Velma Marie Wilkerson, 85, formerly of Columbia, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1926 in Yosemite and was the daughter of the late Felin and Alma Brachett Durham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wilkerson on May 18, 2007.
She was a member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene and was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Thomas H. and his wife Electra Wilkerson of Okachobee, Fla.; one daughter, Karen Dial of Columbia; and by two sisters, Helen Brackett of Liberty and Faye Carman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Thirteen grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren survive.
Funeral service was Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Scott Ezell officiating with burial in Columbia Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Gerard Smith, John Dixon, Chad Davis, Nick Devore, Greg Moore, Gary Branham, Dennis Wesley and Nick Bloodworth.

Donald H. Samuell, 76, of Edmonton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at his home.
He was born on June 12, 1935 and was the son of the late Zack Louis and Elsie Loy Samuell of Glens Fork.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gowen Samuell of Columbia; his sons, Roger Samuell of Breeding and Zack Louis Samuell of Columbia; one sister, Bernadine Andrew of Glens Fork; and by three grandchildren, Mark Samuell, Kim Samuell and Kevin Samuell.
He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Sanford Samuell.
Mr. Samuell was a lifelong farmer and attended Sparksville Baptist Church.

Faye Jessie, 68, of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at her home after an illness.
She was born on April 3, 1943 in Adair County and was the daughter of the late Owen and Vernie Lee Pelston England of Columbia.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Jessie of Columbia; two sons, David Jessie and his wife Holly and Dewayne Jessie, both of Columbia; one daughter, Cynthia Aubin and her husband Kevin of Louisville; one brother, Leonard England of Breeding; four sisters, Lucille Troutman of Frankfort, Carol Roach of Louisville, Martha Leach of Georgia and Johnnietta Jessie of Edmonton; and by six grandchildren, Kurtis Jessie, Kenton Jessie, Samantha Jessie, Karli Jessie, Amanda Frames and Megan Aubin.
Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
She was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church at Breeding and was a factory worker.
Funeral service was Friday, Jan. 20 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. David Summers and Rev. Frank Aubin officiating with interment in Moore Cemetery at Gradyville.
