The City of Columbia will be collecting food items to help provide for those in the community who are affected by facility closures.

For school age children, the City will be accepting donations of pop tarts, cereal bars, peanut butter crackers and cheese crackers, animal crackers, gold fish crackers, applesauce, soups, spaghetti, ravioli, easy mac cheese cups, mashed potato cups, doughnuts, fruit cups, jello cups, Gatorade, chips and canned vegetables.

The city will additionally be collecting items for the elderly due to the senior citizen center being closed.

The items accepted for senior citizens include jello cups, fruit cups, canned vegetables, mashed potato cups, crackers and peanut butter.

“We would like to encourage people in the community to bring these items to city hall,” said Mayor Pamela Hoots.

If you know of someone in a situation that needs food, please contact City Hall.

Columbia IGA will be donating bags for the food to be delivered by representatives of the City.
