55-year-old Travis Burton of Columbia called 911 at 8:37 p.m. on the night of Friday, March 6 identifying himself twice as Sheriff Travis Burton, stating he was pinned in by a vehicle on East Frazier and requesting that officers respond.
Upon arrival, Columbia Police Officers made contact with Burton at a residence on East Frazier and he stated to officers that a male subject had taken his cruiser.
Burton repeatedly, on scene, stated to officers he was the Sheriff of Adair County and they were free to confirm with the Adair County Judge Executive who had appointed him.
Burton was placed into custody on scene and has been charged with filing a false report, as well as impersonating a peace officer, a class D felony.
Officer John Dial was the arresting officer. Officer Drew Conn and Adair County Sheriff Deputy Josh Durbin also responded.
