On July 8, 2016 at 6:01 a.m. Deputy Aaron Rainwater of the Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident 1-1/2 miles east of Columbia on Liberty Road. Derick Bray, 24, of Columbia was operating a 1997 Jeep east bound on Liberty road when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel after working a late shift assisting in the power outage. The vehicle hit the shoulder of the road and flipped end over end going through a fence and coming to rest on its side. The operator was ejected from the vehicle and thrown approximately 70 – 80 feet coming to rest in a field. Mr. Bray was treated at the scene by Adair County EMS and later flown to University of Louisville Hospital.
