The City of Columbia received notification from Safewise, a national chain that does safety surveys, that Columbia is the second safest town in Kentucky. This list was a part of their recognition of the Top 20 safest cities in the state.
The city was number 25 last year and has moved up to number two for the sixth annual survey this year.

The City of Columbia had the lowest property crime rate with thirteen incidents reported.
“We appreciate the work of our law enforcement and emergency personnel in achieving this recognition,” said Hoots.
The survey reports that the state has lower crime rates than national averages. The top three cities in Kentucky had big jumps in their ratings this year:
Greenville went from 12th safest to first, Columbia went from 25th to second and Fort Thomas moved from 14th to third.
Other statistics listed that 30 percent of cities dropped in their rankings.
