Two Columbia men were arrested Monday evening following a 911 call indicating a domestic violence incident at a residence on Harris Road.
After preliminary investigation Darren Walters, 51, was in the process of being arrested by Sheriff Deputies Joey Keith and Josh Durbin when Arnold Walters, 72, came out of the residence armed with a handgun. Arnold Walters then fired the handgun.
After a short interaction, deputies were able to talk Walters into dropping the handgun but he refused to comply with other commands. Walters was eventually taken into custody by force.
Darren Walters was charged with assault, 4th degree domestic violence while Arnold Walters was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment (police officer) and resisting arrest.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by officers with Columbia Police, Kentucky State Police, Constable Jason Rector and Adair County EMS.
