Wednesday morning, Sept. 11 at 2:46 a.m., Adair County Sheriff’s deputy Joey Keith was dispatched to the 2000 block of KY Hwy. 55 South.
The original complaint was that someone was ringing doorbells of multiple residents in that area.
When deputy Keith arrived in the area, Keith saw a male subject walking and stopped to check him as he was in area of complaint. Upon Keith exiting his vehicle and identifying himself, the male subject fled. A foot pursuit ensued leading across the roadway into a nearby field, and Keith was eventually able to bring pursuit to an end by deploying his taser.
The suspect was then taken into custody and identified as Adrian Morales, 32, of Columbia.
After Morales was secured with the assistance of Columbia Police Officers Adam Cravens and Jamie Cole, a search of the overgrown field was conducted in attempts to locate a backpack that deputy Keith observed Morales take off during the foot chase. They were able to recover the backpack and inside was a loaded .40 caliber glock handgun.
Morales was lodged by Deputy Keith in the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine, possession of stolen property, fleeing and evading police and public intoxication.
The case is being continued by Adair County Sheriff’s Office.
