Eddie Compton, 81 years, 3 months, 23 days, of Fairplay, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.

He was born on April 21, 1935 in Adair County to the late Edgar and Fannie Keltner Compton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Loy Compton on Sept. 27, 2015; two brothers, Jimmy and Harold Compton; one sister, Helen Keltner; and by one great grandson, William Trent Hampton.

He was a member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church, attended Hadley’s Community Church and was a dairy farmer for many years.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry (Cindy) Compton, Tony Joe (Pam) Compton and Stephen (Pam) Compton, all of Fairplay; six daughters, Nancy (Jeff) Burton, Betty Sue (Charlie) Hancock, Rhonda (Garry) Cox, Tammy (Bill) Sexton, all of Columbia, Marsha (Jim) Napier and Kathy (Keith) Greer, all of Fairplay; two brothers, Bobby and Danny Joe Compton, both of Columbia; and by one sister, Judy Coomer of Columbia.

Fourteen grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral service was Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Elbert Hadley and Bro. Bill Scott officiating with burial in Loy Cemetery in Fairplay,.

Memorials are requested to be in form of donation of Gideon Bibles. These may be left at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Jerry Wayne Compton, Anthony Foster, Michael Compton, Justin Hancock, James Napier, Jon Cox, Benjamin Compton and Matthew Compton.
