The 2012-13 season-opener for the Adair County High School girls’ basketball team will place the Lady Indians on the road at Cumberland County. Adair County will visit Cumberland County for a season-opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Lady Indians rolled when the two teams met during the 2011-12 season, defeating outmatched Cumberland County 72-23.
Cumberland County competes in the 16th District along with Russell County, Metcalfe County and Clinton County.
Metcalfe County eliminated Cumberland County from the 2011-12 16th District Tournament, defeating the Lady Panthers 41-29.
Cumberland County, under the direction of head coach Anthony Smith, exited the 2011-12 season 2-27. The Lady Panthers ended the campaign on a seven-game losing streak, posting the 4th Region’s second-worst record. Warren East occupied the final spot in the 4th Region standings, finishing the campaign 2-28.
Smith remains at the helm of the Cumberland County High School girls’ basketball program.
Following the season-opener versus Cumberland County, James Turner-coached Adair County will host Green County in a home opener on Nov. 30.
Adair County is ranked sixth in The Cats’ Pause 2012-13 Kentucky Basketball Yearbook’s Preseason 5th Region Girls’ Basketball Poll. The Lady Indians are listed behind LaRue County (5), Nelson County (4), North Hardin (3), Elizabethtown (2) and 20th District rival Marion County (1), the 5th Region’s reigning champion and frontrunner. Adair County is ranked ahead of Green County (7), John Hardin (8), Washington County (9) and Caverna (10) in the preseason poll.
The Lady Indians are only scheduled to face Cumberland County once during the 2012-13 season. Tip-off for the Adair County-Cumberland County girls’ basketball game is set for 5;30 p.m. The two girls’ high school basketball programs will meet as part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
