HEARD THROUGHOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL: ‘The Decision Was Already Made’

Community Voice Assistant Editor Allison Cross-Hollon will soon post an article about the high school Site Based Decision Making Committee meeting that left the 300 plus people in attendance stunned as Principal Troy Young made the decision to eliminate an agriculture teacher position without a vote from the site based members.

More than 300 farmers, business leaders, community leaders and students attended in support of the agriculture program.
Former FFA president and local businessman Tommy Grider showed off his FFA jacket and talked about the importance of agriculture education and FFA.
Ag students were devastated by Principal Troy Young’s announcement he plans to eliminate a teaching position in the vocational agriculture department and instead hire a foreign language teacher.
Ag teacher Kirby Hancock said he learned at the beginning of the school year that a decision had already been made to eliminate an ag teacher position. In speaking with Principal Troy Young, Hancock said he was told administration had made the decision. The decision, he thought, belonged to the Site Based committee, but that’s not how the meeting went down.
Site based committee members seemed genuinely surprised when they realized they would not be voting on an ag teacher position.
The man of the hour, Principal Troy Young, who surprised more than 300 local farmers, community members and students when he announced he was making the decision to eliminate an ag teaching position.
