During a special called meeting Thursday night the Adair County Hospital Board emerged from executive session with the announcement that Westlake will be reducing its staff by 30 full-time positions. The decision will affect employees at the hospital and the four clinics run by Westlake.
According to Neal Gold, CEO of Westlake, this will not come as a total shock to personnel. “I’ve been discussing this with department heads for the past two weeks and they’ve been passing the word. It’s created a lot of tension and obviously everybody is scared.”
The board says the cuts are needed to preserve the needed funds to fulfill the obligations of the asset plans submitted to the bankruptcy court on Friday of last week.
“Its awful that we have to do this. If there was another way to do handle it, if we had the money in the bank…it could be different.”
The move could come as early as Monday.
The plan submitted to bankruptcy court includes the purchase of the hospital district’s assets by T. J. Regional Health.
