The local hospital district has been named in two civil lawsuits filed by former employees.
Dr. Gary Partin and his wife Elizabeth Partin, a nurse, filed a lawsuit after receiving notification from Westlake Regional Hospital that two life insurance policies would be cancelled. Both were on staff at Westlake Primary Care and Westlake Regional Hospital until last year.
According to court records, the Partins said they would not be able to replace the policies once the hospital cancelled them because of previous health issues.
The court issued a temporary injunction that kept the hospital and insurance companies from canceling the policies while the courts hear the case. On Monday, an agreement was filed that allowed the policy for Elizabeth Partin to be turned over to her.
Court documents also refer to a pending arbitration case between Dr. Partin and the hospital that states that the hospital is attempting to collect funds from Partin. It did not provide details, except to say that the case was scheduled for arbitration in July.
FORMER EMPLOYEE ALLEGES HARASSMENT
A former hospital employee filed suit against the hospital district and former maintenance director Jerry Quinn.
Stacy Melton, who was employed at the hospital from 2000 until June 2011, filed the lawsuit in November. The lawsuit accuses Quinn of harassing Melton on numerous occasions, making lewd remarks and gestures. It also charges that Melton’s supervisor refused to respond to two requests by Melton to report the harassment to management and that a former CEO refused to take action when he was told of the incidents.
Depositions in the case are scheduled for next month.
