The Adair County Indians fell to the LaRue County Hawks by a score of 48-45 in the second round of the 5th region boys basketball tournament held at Marion County High School Monday night.
In the first half, the Indians struggled to score, finishing with a season low 12 points. LaRue County also struggled, but led at the break by a score of 17-12. The Indians were able to battle back late in the fourth quarter but couldn’t do enough to claim the lead against an efficient zone trap defense orchestrated by the Hawks.
Zion Harmon’s first field goal came at 5:50 in the third quarter, the Hawks held him to just two points in the first half after two made free throws. Zion led the state of Kentucky in scoring during the regular season. He finished the game with 19 points, 8 assists, three steals and one block.
Senior Corey Melton finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals in his final game as an Indian. Fellow senior Hunter Cundiff added two points with two rebounds and a block. Dre Boyd finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
All 5th region tournament team honors were awarded to Corey Melton and Zion Harmon at the conclusion of the game.
