The Columbia-Adair County Fire Department begins the annual WHAS Crusade for Children Event this weekend.
On Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon , firefighters will be at the four corners of the Columbia Public Square.

On Friday, Aug. 7, they will be at their usual roadblock locations from 3 to 8 p.m. and there again Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The remote will be broadcasted live on WBKO-13 on Saturday, Aug. 8 in Campbellsville at 6 p.m.
The Columbia-Adair County Fire Department has been participating in the crusade since 1963 and has raised over 1.3 million dollars for special needs in Adair County.
The money raised in Columbia-Adair County comes back to the county 100 percent dollar for dollar in the form of grants. Grants are made to non-profit agencies, schools, and hospitals that help children up to the age of 18. These grants can be used to fund specific programs or purchase equipment that provide direct benefits to the children.
The crusade was established in 1954 by WHAS-TV. It raises money for agencies, schools, and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children. Special needs defined as physical, mental, emotional and medical needs. Since the crusade was established, over $165 million has been raised. Fire Departments raise over 50 percent of the money each year by staging roadblocks and other events. Millions of children have been helped.
“We would appreciate your congregations support in this year’s Crusade for Children,” said Crusade Chairmen Charles Esch and Grant Loy.
