Jamestown woman dies in crash on Columbia bypass

(Columbia, Ky.) – Tpr. Logan Richardson is investigating a collision that occurred Monday, Jan. 21 at 1:38 PM CST on KY 61 and the Columbia bypass. 44-year-old Glenda Downey of Jamestown was operating a 1993 Oldsmobile, traveling south on the Columbia bypass when she failed to stop at a red light. She struck a 1995 Chevy operated by 59-year-old Ronald Gibson of Columbia. Gibson was traveling west on Burkesville Street; his vehicle then struck a 1996 Chevrolet that was traveling east on Burkesville Street. It was operated by 59-year-old Cynthia Harvey of Columbia. All operators were wearing seatbelts.

Glenda Downey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County Coroner. Gibson and Harvey were transported to Westlake Hospital where they were treated and released. A passenger in the Downey vehicle, 79-year-old Mary Huff of Russell Springs, was belted but was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital and is in stable condition.
