Lindsey Wilson won for the fourth time this season against a ranked opponent as the Blue Raiders defeated No. 24-ranked Union (Ky.) 15-5 on Wednesday at Jerry Carey Stadium.
Lindsey Wilson (18-11) scored in all but one inning in the shortened game as the Blue Raiders scored double-digit runs for the 10th time this season. The game was halted following the eighth inning after the Blue Raiders claimed the 10-run lead over the Bulldogs (19-6).
Alex Bautista led the Lindsey Wilson offense with a pair of home runs and five RBIs.
Bautista opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run shot to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead. Bautista added a three-run homer — his team-leading eighth of the season — in Lindsey Wilson’s six-run sixth inning.
Fabian Chirino — who also homered — had four hits, three runs and two RBIs. Aaron Ashton, Daryl Blaskovich and Dustin Woody all added two hits for the Blue Raiders in the win.
Matt Lashlee (2-0) — who was one of five different Blue Raiders to pitch on Wednesday — earned the win in relief. He allowed one run on two hits over his two innings.
Aaron Pearcy allowed one run on two hits in his three innings in a starting role. Scott Sebald, Chris Erker and Carlos Pena all pitched one inning to help Lindsey Wilson win its third straight game — matching a season high.
Union’s Casey Whittle (0-1) suffered the loss allowing three runs in his three innings of work.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, March 27, as the Blue Raiders host Pikeville (Ky.) in the first game of a weekend series at Egnew Park.
