The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split the final games of its Alabama road trip on Sunday with a 12-0 win over Judson (Ill.) and an 8-0 loss to host No. 5 Faulkner (Ala.).
It was a tale of two teams as the Blue Raiders (8-6) exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits in the opener before managing just seven hits and failing to score in the weekend finale.
Lindsey Wilson used offensive firepower and another solid pitching performance to pummel Judson (1-2) in the opener. The Blue Raiders finished with a .417 batting average as a team in the win over the Eagles.
Alex Bautista continued his impressive weekend going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Brandon Munoz and Victor Nazario also both finished with three hits. Nazario, Aaron Ashton and Edgar Lebron finished with two RBIs each. After an RBI single by Ashton gave the Blue Raiders the lead in the opening inning, Bautista increased it to 3-0 in the third on a two-run home run, his fourth of the season. Munoz also scored in the inning on a Judson error to make it 4-0.
Lebron scored on a ground out in the fifth and Ashton doubled home Bautista to make it a 6-0 game after five innings.
The offensive onslaught brought the game to an early end in the eighth inning as Lindsey Wilson tacked on five more runs to make it a 12-0 game. The Blue Raiders racked up four singles, a double and a triple to put things out of reach in the top of the eighth.
On the mound, Lindsey Wilson was the benefactor of another outstanding pitching performance for the second day in a row, this time from Scott Sebald.
The junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, threw seven complete innings allowing just five hits while striking out 11 without allowing a run. He walked just one batter as he improved to 2-1 on the year. During a stretch of batters from the bottom of the fourth to the bottom of the sixth inning, Sebald retired six hitters via strikeout.
Judson’s Miguel Villafane (0-1) took the loss giving up five earned runs on nine hits in his 6-2/3 innings.
In the nightcap, Faulkner (18-2) returned the shutout favor that the Blue Raiders had dealt the Eagles just a day earlier.
It appeared Lindsey Wilson had used up all the offensive firepower in the first game of the day as the Blue Raiders managed just seven hits and failed to score in the 8-0 loss.
The Eagles plated three runs in the first two innings and added a four-run fourth to put things away as the Lindsey Wilson bats just never came alive.
Bautista was the lone Blue Raider with more than one hit in the loss.
Faulkner’s Chris Madera led the offensive attack going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Robert Llera added a pair of RBIs. Starting pitcher Jack Charleston (2-0) recorded the complete-game shutout giving up the seven hits while striking out six.
Chris Erker (1-2) took the loss on the mound giving up four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in his four innings of work.
Next up for the Blue Raiders is a March 4 meeting at Union (Ky.).
