Blue Raiders upset Campbellsville before falling to Union and St. Catharine
The Lindsey Wilson men’s bowling team closed out the Mid-South Conference Championships on Saturday with a 1-2 record in the double-elimination tournament.
Baker Scoring was used for the tournament, allowing five bowlers to bowl two frames apiece to account for a team’s score in a best-of-seven series.
To start their day, the seventh-seeded Blue Raiders upset second-seeded Campbellsville by a 4-3 margin to advance in the winner’s bracket semifinals.
The Tigers got out to an early 3-1 lead and had the Blue Raiders on the ropes. But Lindsey Wilson responded with a 178-154 win in game five and a dominating 257-131 victory in game six to force a seventh and decisive game. In game seven, the Blue Raiders cruised to a 192-139 win, completing the upset.
Lindsey Wilson suffered a setback in their next match, falling to sixth-seeded Union, 4-2, dropping down into the consolation bracket. Leading 2-1, the Blue Raiders just missed out on making it 3-1 but Union won by eight pins in the fourth game to tie it at 2-2. The Bulldogs controlled the final two games to take the match 4-2.
Facing elimination, the Blue Raiders lost to fourth-seeded St. Catharine by a final score of 4-0. Lindsey Wilson lost the first two games by a combined 10 pins including a 165-162 loss in game two. The Patriots easily captured the final two games to eliminate the Blue Raiders.
Ultimately, top-seeded Pikeville claimed the team tournament title over Union. The Bears had steamrolled the competition with three-straight 4-0 victories before Union shocked Pikeville with a 4-0 win in the first match of the finals to force the “if necessary” game. In the “if necessary” game, Pikeville won 4-1 winning the fifth and decisive game by three points.
