The Lindsey Wilson men’s tennis team opened the 2015 home schedule with a 9-0 win over Cumberlands (Ky.) on Sunday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders (6-2) did not drop a single set in the non-conference matchup as the Patriots fall to 1-4 on the year.
Ignacio Huertas and Pablo Vilches captured the first point of the day at the No. 3 doubles position defeating Daniel Butcher and Yusuke Matsuoka 8-2. Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez then won at the No. 2 position 8-4 over Eduardo Cabrera and Adrian Elduque. Edberg Espinoza and Francisco Charters completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the top position over Daniel Fraser and Ariez Heshaam to make it 3-0 before singles play.
Mendez quickly captured the fourth point with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 3 singles position over Matsuoka, and Porcic captured the decisive fifth point with a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 2 singles position over Cabrera to mathematically seal the match.
The Blue Raiders won the remaining four singles matches, never losing more than four points in a single set.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on March 10 for a match at Reinhardt (Ga.).
