Casey Bryan is the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week and Chelsea Showers is the MSC Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. Bryan picks up her first career weekly honor while Showers earns the award for the third time this season. Bryan won twice and recorded a pair of saves to earn conference pitcher of the week honors.
The Sharps Chapel, Tennessee, sophomore earned two saves in Lindsey Wilson’s wins over Davenport (Mich.). Bryan pitched 1-2/3 scoreless innings in each win to help the Blue Raiders to the top-25 sweep.
Bryan hurled a complete game while scattering five hits in an 8-1 win over Madonna (Mich.) in the first game of the doubleheader. She added a second win in relief, pitching the final three innings without allowing a run.
She closed the week with a 0.53 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13-1/3 innings.
Bryan leads the Mid-South in wins (6) and saves (2) following the weekend. She is second in the conference in strikeouts (39), third in ERA (1.35) and sixth in opponent’s batting average (.228). Bryan’s two saves are fifth in the NAIA, while her six wins are 34th.
Showers recorded a .529 batting average with three home runs and nine RBIs last week to earn conference player of the week honors.
The Atlanta, Georgia, senior outfielder hit safely in each of her four games — all Lindsey Wilson wins.
Showers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the Blue Raiders’ 11-4 win at No. 23 Davenport. She followed with a 4-for-5 game with two home runs and four RBIs in an 11-5 win in a nightcap win over Davenport.
The next day against Madonna, Showers was 1-for-4 with a run in an 8-1 win and 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs in a 14-5 victory.
Showers completed the week with a 1.118 slugging percentage while scoring six times.
Showers leads the Mid-South in slugging percentage (1.000), runs (28), hits (33), home runs (8), and total bases (63). She is second in batting average (.524), on-base percentage (.577) and RBIs (23). Nationally, Showers is fifth in home runs, sixth in runs, eighth in slugging and ninth in total bases in the NAIA.
No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson is 16-3 on the season.
The Blue Raiders return to the diamond on Friday as they travel up the road to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a four-game series.
