Mary ‘Edna’ Blaydes

Mary “Edna” Blaydes, 96, of Columbia passed away Friday July 29, 2016 at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville.

She was born April 15, 1920 in Cane Valley and was the daughter of the late Ben and Audrey Dillingham Banks.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Woodrow Blaydes; two sisters, Madge Farris and Frances Moore.

Mrs. Blaydes is survived by one daughter, Janice Yarberry; two grandchildren, Karla Davis and Brian Yarberry; four great-grandchildren, Grace and Will Davis and Abby and Alex Yarberry all of Louisville.

Mrs. Blaydes was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1938. She also graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in 1940. She went on to graduate from Campbellsville College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. After teaching in a one-room school at Bull Runn, she taught 3rd grade at Knifley Grade Center and retired from the Adair County School System after 24 years of service. She was a devoted and active member of the Columbia Union Presbyterian Church and she was also an avid gardener and active in the Daylight Homemakers group.

Funeral service was Tuesday Aug. 2 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with interment in Haven Hill Cemetary.

Pallbearers were Doug Sapp, Clyde Kirtley, Chuch Hoeppner, David W. Claycomb, Lynn McLean, and Robert L. Dillingham. Grissom-Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. www.grissommartin.com
