For many of us, Memorial Day means a day off work, extra time with family, maybe even some fun in the sun.
All those things are great, but here is a reminder of why we set this day aside. This monument lists the Adair County citizens who died in action supporting this nation in the Armed Services dating back to World War I. The monument stands in front of the fairgrounds. We all travel by it, we see it when we attend functions at the fairgrounds; it’s there as a constant reminder of the people who gave the supreme sacrifice.
For this weekend, I urge all of you to look at it, really look at it. The last names on this monument are part of the rich heritage of our country, our county, our community. Family names we are all familiar with. Their sacrifice is our heritage; the greatest gift of all, to lay down their lives for us.
We are a free nation today because these people stood for freedom. We owe them so much! We are such a blessed nation, and their sacrifices have provided us the opportunity to become the land of the free! Let’s not forget their sacrifice! Let’s not forget!
God Bless These Fallen Heroes! God Bless Adair County! God Bless the USA!
