GEORGETOWN – Dylan Beasley connected with Carmetrick Ross for a 28-yard touchdown in the waning seconds today to give No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) a 24-17 win over No. 11 Georgetown (Ky.) at Toyota Stadium.
The win is the second straight for the Blue Raiders (2-0) over the Tigers and the first in Georgetown.
The Beasley-to-Ross touchdown was the second big play for the pair during the game-winning drive. Beasley found Ross over the middle on third and 11 for 37 yards to set up the touchdown pass two plays later.
Beasley finished the game 18-for-32 for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Ross made the most of his two catches tallying 65 yards.
Georgetown (0-2) had one final chance, but Joe Lewis’ interception ended the game and sealed the win. It was the third interception of the game for the Blue Raider defense.
Lindsey Wilson — who never trailed in the game — marched down the field on the first drive of the game to take the 7-0 lead. The Blue Raiders covered 75 yards with eight plays capped by Beasley’s 36-yard toss to Jay Gaudlock.
The Blue Raider defense provided the next score.
After failing to record a takeaway last week, Treon Hill not only gave Lindsey Wilson its first interception of the season, but also a pick-six. Hill returned his third career interception 80 yards for a 14-0 lead.
Georgetown cut the deficit in half early in the second quarter. Terry Johnson scored on a two-yard run to move the Tigers within 14-7. Johnson rushed for 98 yards and the one touchdown in the game.
Lindsey Wilson pushed the lead back to double digits with 9:53 left in the third quarter. Caleb Keeton connected on a 24-yard field goal for a 17-7 lead.
The Tigers — who out-gained the Blue Raiders 359 to 304 in total yards thanks to running 26 more offensive plays — began their comeback early in the fourth quarter.
Georgetown quarterback Ozzie Mann scrambled for a five-yard touchdown to complete an 11-play, 68-yard drive and cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 17-14.
Following a Lindsey Wilson turnover, Georgetown tied the game at 17-17 with a Josh Depp 27-yard field goal. The score ended another lengthy Tiger drive — 14 plays and 31 yards.
Despite Georgetown tying the game, the Lindsey Wilson defense once again stood tall.
Facing a Tiger offense that had first-and-goal from the LWC 10-yard line, the Blue Raider defense stuffed two consecutive Georgetown runs and forced and incomplete pass that resulted in the field goal.
Both teams had three-and-outs on their next possessions before the Lindsey Wilson game-winning drive.
Hill ended the game with two interceptions while Michael Brooks led the team with 11 tackles, including one for a loss. Chris Oldham finished with seven tackles and a sack.
