OBIT: Claudia Coomer, 88

Claudia Coomer, 88, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center.

She was born on May 19, 1923 in Adair County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Mackie Coomer Brown.

She was married to Wallace J. Coomer, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1988 and later married Azro Coomer, of Columbia, who survives.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Coomer; three brothers, Herbert, Duluth and Roscoe Brown; and by two sisters, Cymbeline Gowen and Alice Coomer.

She was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richie and Sue Coomer, and Gerald and Cynthia Coomer, all of Columbia; one daughter and son-in-law, Judie and Bob Rice of Columbia; one brother, Calvin Brown of Columbia; three sisters, Audra Campbell, Lenora Parrish and Faye Bault, all of Columbia; and by four grandchildren, Cindy Walker and her husband Larry, Neal Coomer and his wife Tammy, Chris Coomer and his wife tiffany and Ben Coomer, all of Columbia.

Five great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral service was Sunday, Jan. 15 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Neil Janes and Bro. Steve Pescosolido officiating with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request expressions of sympathy to be in the form of a donation to Columbia United Methodist Church or Trinity United Methodist Church. These may be left at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Chris Coomer, Neal Coomer, Larry Walker, Steve Campbell, Willard Coomer and Raymond Brown.
