OBIT: Lyle Mitchell Smith, 91

Lyle Mitchell Smith, 91, of the Cane Valley community, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset after an illness.

He was born on June 5, 1920 in Adair County and was the son of the late Roy E. and Sally Hudson Smith.

Mr. Smith was a lifelong farmer in the Cane Valley area, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #96 for more than 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Sullivan Smith on April 11, 1991 and by one brother, Lee Smith.

He is survived by one son, Gene Mitchell Smith of Columbia; two nieces, Lana Glasgow of Columbia and Lisa Riley of Glasgow; and by one “special granddaughter,” Cassie Jo Rogers of Columbia.

Funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 14 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Willis officiating with interment in Columbia Cemetery.

Masonic rites were conferred at Columbia Lodge #96.

Pallbearers were Ricky Bault, Joe Flowers, Robert Flowers, Lynn McLean, Joe Rogers and Charles Shirley.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Russell Barbee, Kenny Brock, Charles Collins, Wayne Dulworth, Jimmy McGowan, Sam Pelly, Chris Watts and O.R. Wheet.
