Rosemary Hancock Gillespie, 83, of Campbellsville, formerly of Cane Valley, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at Signature Health and Rehab at Summit Manor.

She was born on July 6, 1933 and raised in Cane Valley. She was the daughter of the late Samuell Nathan Banks and Rose Mae Shepherd Hancock.

She was the widow of David Earl Gillespie who preceded her in death on July 1, 2013. She was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters, Samuell Hancock, Jr., Judith Ann Sewell, Rachel Breeding, Sarah Branham and Doris Hubbard.

She was survived by two special great nieces and a special great nephew, Julie Breeding, Jaime Hitch and Joey Breeding all of Columbia; one nephew, Stephen Breeding of Columbia; and one niece, Phyllis Belew of Louisville. She is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, a host of family and friends.

She was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church and also attended her childhood church, Cane Valley Christian Church, attended a country grade school in Cane Valley, Columbia High School and graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in 1954. She did her graduate and masters work at Campbellsville College and Western Kentucky University. She taught school in Taylor County School for 45 years.

In 1961 Rosemary married David Gillespie from Bethel, Ohio. They both taught and worked in their respective schools until they retired.

Funeral service was Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Ivan Tucker and Dr. Mike O’Neal officiating with interment in Cane Valley Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Cane Valley Christian Church or Cane Valley Cemetery and may be made at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Joey Breeding, Justin McDonald, Randy Bowen, Brad Lauer, James Cundiff and Daniel Nissley.
