Roy Alfred Squires, 86, of Columbia, formerly of Campbellsville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green after an illness.

He was born on June 13, 1930 in Milltown and was the son of the late Caleb Levis and Ollie J. Stephens Squires. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Austin, Stanley, Richard, James and infant twin brother Ray Squires; and two sisters, Clarice Jeffries and Cecil Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Burris Squires of Columbia; one son, Earl Lee Squires and his special friend Louise Cox of Campbellsville; one daughter, Shirley Ann Hoover and her husband Wendell of Russell Springs; and one sister, Marie Staples of Fordsville. Six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, host of other relatives and friends survive.

He was a member of Jesus Name Church in Campbellsville and retired from the Fruit of the Loom Factory in Campbellsville.

Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Jesus Name Church in Campbellsville with Elder Rueal Boils, Elder Jimmy Sharp and Elder Ronnie Gowen officiating with interment in Jesus Name Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmie Squires, Mitchell Shaw, Terry Jeffries, Raymond Staples, Johnny Staples and Jeremy Burris.

Honorary pallbearers were Scott Hoover, Scott Shaw, Chet Lock, Nick Jones and Randall Burris.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
