Sarah Evelyn Conover Carter, 86, formerly of Columbia and Russell Springs, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, after several months of illness.

She was born Nov. 25, 1930 in Adair County and was the daughter of the late Ben and Perlie Mae Conover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Achilles Washington Carter, on May 9, 1976; her two sons, Ray Carter and Rhuie Carter; and by two sisters, Myrtle Grider and Maude Powell.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, Achilles “Bo” Carter and wife Sheila of Somerset and Ronnie Carter of Russell Springs; four daughters, Jackie Adamson and husband Waldo of Russell Springs, Jo Schorman and husband David of Russell Springs, Jerri Evelyn Bunch and husband Randall of Jamestown, Judy Neal and husband Rick of Pine Knot; and 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a wonderful loving mother and grandmother to all. She attended White Oak Baptist Church.

Funeral service was Saturday July 30, 2016 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Knight and Bro. Richie Curtis officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Russell County.

Pallbearers were James Adamson, Patrick Adamson, Achilles Wayne Carter, Dakota Carter, Jeremy Carter, Mark Carter, Scotty Carter, Carter Hammond, Cole Hammond and Johnny Ray.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
