The Adair County School District ran a legal notice saying it is considering a tax rate increase from 50.5 cents to 52.5 cents. The board has not discussed the rate yet but the legal notice will allow them an increase up to 4 percent if that is what they choose. They can go less, including the compensating rate of 50.5 cents. There is a public hearing Thursday morning at 8 a.m. (we omitted the time of the meeting in a recent front page article. My apologies). The hearing allows taxpayers to voice their opinions on the proposed tax rate. In addition to the public hearing, the board has set a special called meeting in which it will then consider the tax rate. Here is the notice about the special meeting:

This is official notification that there will be a Tax Hearing and a Special Called School Board Meeting Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. at the Adair County Board of Education Conference Room for the purpose of:
(1) TAX HEARING DISCUSSION
(2) APPROVAL OF TAX RATES FOR 2015-2016
(3) APPROVAL OF BG-5 FORM FOR CAREER READINESS CENTER
