Shirley Coffey Holt, 83, of the Montpelier community of Adair County, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 after several months illness.
She was born on Oct. 1, 1933 in Montpelier and was the daughter of the late Holland and Zelma Morrison Coffey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvil Holt on Oct. 22, 2005; by three brothers-in-law, Lowell Smith, Arvis Holt and Kenneth Holt; and by a sister-in-law, Nioma Kean.
She is survived by one daughter, Laura Beth Murrell and her husband Greg of Columbia; three granddaughters, Emily Cross (Abe) of Glensfork, Olivia Sanders (Tyler) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Anna Murrell of Columbia; two great grandchildren, Delaney Rose Cross and Deacon Holt Cross; two sisters, Ina Smith of Louisville and Guinda Sue Miller (Bobby) of Gahanna, Ohio; four brothers, Joe Norman Coffey and his wife Ada, Earl Coffey and his wife Marilyn of Montpelier, Carl Coffey and his wife June of Glasgow and Gene Coffey and his wife Lillie of Louisville; and by her caregivers, Debbie Bryant and Melinda Knight.
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
She has professed her faith at a young age and was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Lindsey Wilson College and the University of Louisville. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Jefferson and Adair counties.
After retirement she subbed for many years at John Adair Intermediate School. She was a member of the Club 92 Homemakers for more than 39 years. She loved reading and was a member of the book club at the Adair County Public Library.
Funeral service was Monday, Dec. 19 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Wethington and Bro. Terry White officiating with interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Pleasant Hill Christian Church, American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
