The Adair County Indians baseball team is having impressive season, winning 10 of the last 12 games.
For the first time this season, they are ranked in the top 25 in two different polls. Prep Baseball Kentucky has them ranked 21st while Kentucky High School Sports Zone has them ranked 19th.
With two of the top home run hitters in the state, the Indians have battled to victory over five top 25 teams. The team is preparing for post season play, according to Coach Ryan McQueary.
Adair County easily beat Somerset 10-3 on Saturday. Russell led with a single run in the first inning. The Indians were on fire in the second inning, scoring five runs. Coomer started the game pitching the first three innings. Russell relieved him in the fourth and finished the game.
In the second game of the day, the Indians took on Whitley County and came away with 1-0 win. Isaac Rodgers started on the mound and accumulated 21 outs. Zane Gist batted in the one run for the Indians to gain the win.
Adair fell short on Monday to South Warren, with a final score of 5-6. Russell had a solo home run in the first inning to put the Indians on the board. Coomer hit a home run in the seventh, scoring three runs for the team.
Defense turned two double plays attempting to get past South Warren, but South Warren still accumulated six stolen bases.
The Indians’ next home game is Thursday night against Green County.
