The Adair County Middle School football team suffered a setback during Thursday night’s game against Monroe County, going 34-20 in the matchup.
“They controlled the line of scrimmage all night. When you can do that, you win the game,” Coach Wes Stephens stated in a post-game reflection.
Despite being a loss, however, there were several bright spots. Players Parker Jessie, Josh Baker, and Wiley Feese put up big numbers against Monroe. Colton Grant performed his throws well.
And, of course, every loss comes with one upside: it shows weaknesses that can be addressed. Coach Stephens and his team are already doing a post-mortem to see how to improve for their next game.
“We moved the ball at times, but we weren’t consistent enough. We’ve also got to improve our tackling,” he said.
Improving will be important as, this week, the team will begin conference play. “The good news is, in the big picture, this loss really won’t hurt us,” Coach Stephens argued. Instead, conferences will be the determinant of how far this team goes this year, and Coach Stephens is confident in their ability to go the distance.
“We have the potential to be a good team. The conference is strong this year, so we’ll have a lot of work to do to get back in the playoffs and try to defend our conference championship.”
The loss came after the week before’s promising big win against Metcalfe County where the Indians toppled the competition going 48-20.
