Charles Arthur Sargent III, 67, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family in Asheville, NC. He was born on April 30, 1957 in Louisville to the late Charles Arthur Sargent II and Emily Cain Edwards Sargent.
Arthur, as he was most fondly known, retired to the multi-generational family farm in Columbia, where he was deeply involved in the local community. A member, business moderator, and trustee of Gradyville Baptist Church, Arthur lived a life of faith, service, and dedication. He was a 1979 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and worked as an accomplished mechanical engineer. In recent years, Arthur found great joy in pursuing his passion for farming, continuing the traditions of his family.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his sister, Mary Leslie Buchner, and her husband, David; niece, Emily Cain Buchner; nephew, Bradley David Buchner; cousin, Sarah Cain Laughon and her husband, Barry Laughon; and cousin, Davis May and his wife, Julie May. He is also survived by several second cousins in Atlanta, Ga., Greenville, S.C., and New York, NY.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 from noon to 2 p.m. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, with Pastor Adam Pruitt officiating. Following the visitation, there will be a graveside service at Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville St., Columbia, where Arthur will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers will be Wally Taylor, Joe Flowers, Davis May, and Bradley Buchner.
