City Council decides on Christmas décor and shelves medical cannabis discussion

Posted

Tuesday night’s Columbia City Council meeting went smoothly. The first major item on the agenda was the approval of funding Luci Irvin’s downtown decorations for Christmas. The vote was unanimous in favor of providing $600 for the project following a brief presentation with mockups of what the decorations would look like.
Chuck Rogers of the Trabue-Russell House prompted two votes. The first vote was asking $1,600 for new chimney covers, repairing the draught line, installation of the new chimney and covers with masonry sealant. The second request was about hiring an architect to plan roofing for the house. Both passed.
A vote to opt in or opt out of medical cannabis in the city was shelved for next month’s meeting.
The final item was the approval to advertise for the purchase of a new police vehicle. This motion also passed.
