Rebecca Thrower of Columbia was arrested twice last Thursday after escaping custody during the first arrest and fleeing on foot from Officer Elliot Smith.
According to Chief Evan Burton, Officer Smith was patrolling the area of Bomar Heights around 12:43 a.m. when he saw Thrower and Travis Crew go into a local business. Officer Smith was aware that both people had active warrants for their arrest.
Upon entering the business, he placed Thrower under arrest and handcuffed her. A second officer was in route to assist but had not arrived yet. As Officer Smith was attempting to arrest Crew, he resisted. Thrower seized the opportunity and fled on foot while handcuffed.
Crew was arrested on three outstanding warrants. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and providing false information to an officer. He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
Deputy Sheriff Gary Roy located Thrower a few hours later near Russell Creek and West Barbee Street. Thrower was no longer wearing the cuffs from the earlier arrest. According to Deputy Roy, as he was approaching her, she threw an object under a nearby vehicle. While placing her under arrest, she resisted and assaulted Deputy Roy. After Thrower was securely in custody, Deputy Roy recovered the object, which contained various drugs including approximately 24 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Thrower was charged with probation violation, fleeing or evading police, escape, theft by deception; trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st degree over 2 grams methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, second offense; possession of a controlled substance; assault, 3rd degree, police officer; tampering with physical evidence; drug paraphernalia; and resisting arrest.
The missing handcuffs are still at large.
