A fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 10 for a long-time local business owner fighting cancer.
Danny Burton, owner of Burton’s Auction for over 50 years, is currently battling stage 4 glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer that causes tumors to grow and spread rapidly.
Burton was diagnosed in September 2024 when a tumor was located on the front portion of his brain. He underwent surgery, but surgeons were unable to remove the entire tumor. Subsequently, he underwent 33 rounds of radiation and 90 days of chemotherapy.
A second inoperable brain tumor was discovered in December 2024. His daughter, Danna Burton, said they continue to seek treatment but other medical issues are causing complications.
“Vanderbilt wants him to start chemo infusions but his blood pressure is currently too high to start the infusions, and we are working to get it down,” she said.
Relatives and friends of Burton’s have organized a benefit to help the family with medical and travel expenses. The benefit will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Columbia VFW Post, 500 Greenhills Rd., and will include a silent auction, bake sale, meal, and live music. To make a donation, contact Gloria at 606-303-0622, Rick at 859-319-2614 or Nicole 270-634-8138.
