Last Thursday the Adair County High School girls’ golf team suffered a defeat in a match with Russell County in an away game held at Lakewood Country Club.
“This was our first match so we had some nerves as expected,” Head Coach Ashley Goodin said.
The Adair County golf team for this match consisted of Ila Loy, who scored 45; Shae Inchcliff, who scored 60; Claire Loy, who scored 68; Reesea West, who scored 69; and Raegan Atwood, who also scored 69.
Due to a variety of factors, five girls could not make it to the Lakewood match, so Goodin substituted them with brand new players.
“If you consider that three of these girls have really only been playing just shy of two weeks, that’s not a bad score,” Coach Goodin said.
Despite the nerves, the game had a positive tone. Both the Adair County team and Russell County team are “growing,” as Goodin said, and Russell County’s Coach Wright worked with her team. Several from Adair – Jada Woolridge, Ava Feese, Maci Spears, Delcie Burton, and Ava Loy – played a friendly scrimmage match alongside several girls from Russell County while the match happened.
“I’m super proud of them and excited for their potential. I hope they continue to play and enjoy the game like I do,” Goodin said.
