Though fighting hard and often going neck-and-neck with their opponents, the Adair County Lady Indians fell short of a win during Friday night’s dustup with Campbellsville.
Even as late as the third quarter, the girls were tied. Before the final stretch of the game, Adair County set at a tied game of 44 points each. As the final quarter wore on, the score rapidly increased for both teams and the Lady Eagles slowly pulled ahead. The game’s final score came out to a narrow loss, at 69 to 62 in favor of the Lady Eagles.
The girls struggled to make some baskets that could have put them in the lead. Their accuracy for three-pointers for the game was below 30 percent. They did much better with two-pointers and free-throws, however; their free-throw percentage was over 75 percent. The team made 10 of 13 free throws and had a total of 24 rebounds.
Kinzlee Akin was the game’s MVP. The junior athlete netted 18 points of their total 62. Freshman Reese Bardin came in close behind her with 16 points. While Bardin did not have any free-throw attempts, she did make four out of nine three-pointers she shot.
Seventh-grader Ila Loy made four out of four free-throws and scored 11 points. Addison Bowman, Anika Jennings, and Allee Campbell scored seven, six, and four points respectively.
While the Campbellsville game was a narrow loss, the girls rebounded with a massive win the very next day against Pleasure Ridge Park in Louisville. They won by the same score they lost to in the Campbellsville game, shooting a game of 69 points against Pleasure Ridge Park’s 46.
Saturday’s game saw Loy shoot ahead to MVP for the game. She scored 20 points, netting seven of 10 attempted two-pointers and two out of five three-pointers. Akin shot 18 points with out of 14 two-pointers scored. She also made both free-throw attempts. One point behind her was freshman Addison Bowman with 17 points—she made 6 two-pointers, a three-pointer, and two out of five free-throws.
As a whole, the girls made 31 of 68 field goals and had 39 rebounds.
The girls went on to another massive win, this time their homecoming game against Monroe County on Tuesday night. It was an exciting game and Monroe often ate at the gap between them and Adair County, but the Lady Indians never allowed them to top the scoreboard. The Lady Indians won 65 to 59.
The girls will next take on Marion County in an away game on Friday night. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.
